People love to speak out loud for themselves. They want to let other people know about their opinions, ideas, and themselves.

In a conversation between two people, 95% of the people have 87% intention to speak out loud about their viewpoints. It is not an actual issue here. The real issue is being not able to control it all the time and it might turn out toxic for the listener.

It’s not always you speak. Let them speak--Sometimes it’s good to be just a silent listener.

I want to keep this article simple, short, and to the point. Before we get deeper I want you to get a clear meaning of the two — Listening and Speaking.

Listening(here) — Being attentive, enthusiastic, and accumulating input from what the speaker is speaking.

Speaking(here) — Hostile, selfish, self-viewpoint, and forceful conveying.

Listening has wide different patterns. Here we will infer listening as being attentive, enthusiastic, and fetching to what the speaker is asserting.

● Why is it so important to listen?

The biggest problem with us is we do not listen to understand. We listen to reply.

Listening is an art. Not everyone can listen. It requires your attention and interest to listen. A listener is a disciplined person.

How important is listening skill? It’s everything! If you want to get to the point of what the person is speaking, you have to listen.

Listening helps —

  • To gain more information.
  • It’s disciplined.
  • When you listen to a person, it means you are humbling.
  • It gives you a clear insight into the topic.
  • Listening will direct you to a wise decision.

● Speaking — Disadvantages.

Speaking comes by nature, silence by understanding.

Too much speaking is not good. It might bash you. Too much speaking might plunge you into a trap. People who speak too much are not good at keeping secrets.

Speaking too much reduces carefulness. That is the major problem here. There is a good chance that you might lash out at someone with your words. That is more problematic.

Here is a list of some familiar disadvantages of speaking too much…

  • You fail to keep secret.
  • You might hurt someone with your words.
  • People don’t like a person talking too much.
  • You fail to be more careful.
  • You are less likely to learn more.

This article doesn’t mean that anyone should suppress their right to freedom of speech. Speak when it’s time. Enjoy the beauty and peace of listening. You learn more when you listen than speaking up useless stuff.
